Celebrating Manufacturing Day
Manufacturing Day is an annual national event executed at the local level supported by thousands of manufacturers as they host students, teachers, parents, job seekers and other local community members at open houses, plant tours and presentations designed to showcase modern manufacturing technology and careers.
In celebration of Manufacturing Day 2015, O’Neal Manufacturing Services (OMS) opened its doors at its Indianapolis facility on Oct. 2nd to more than 30 students, educators and community members as part of an effort to change people’s perceptions about today’s manufacturing environment and draw attention to the outstanding opportunities that a career in manufacturing can provide. The event featured a plant tour, panel discussion by current employees, a presentation on the company, and OMS Human Resources professionals on hand to answer questions.
“We think it is vital to demonstrate to the community that American manufacturing is still alive and well, and in fact thriving, in their local community,” said Jim McGill, Director of Commercial Strategy for OMS. “We as a country, and at OMS specifically, have worked very hard to remain globally competitive – and we are succeeding. This is not the manufacturing environment of our fathers. We work in facilities that are clean, technology-based and constantly striving to be at the leading edge of manufacturing improvements.”
Manufacturing Day is co-produced by the Fabricators & Manufacturers Association, International (FMA), the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM), the Manufacturing Institute (MI), the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s (NIST) Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP), and guest producer Industrial Strength Marketing (ISM).
